The Human Resources Forum for the Coatings Sector

A Central Platform for HR, Training, and Labour Relations Professionals

The Human Resources Forum has been established as the dedicated platform for all professionals within the Coatings Sector who are tasked with responsibilities in Personnel Management, Skills Development, and Labour Relations.

This Forum provides a structured, collaborative space for HR practitioners across the value chain — including raw material suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, and application contractors — to engage with national policy, compliance matters, and workforce development trends affecting the sector.

The Forum operates as the authoritative channel of communication and coordination between the Coatings Sector and key national institutions, including:

  • Business Unity South Africa (BUSA)
  • NEDLAC (National Economic Development and Labour Council)
  • National Bargaining Council for the Chemical Industry (NBCCI)
  • Related Government Departments:
    • Department of Employment and Labour
    • Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC)
    • Department of Health
    • Department of Science and Innovation
    • Department of Basic Education
    • Department of Higher Education and Training

The Forum is tasked with facilitating sector-wide consultation, collaboration, and formal responses on all matters affecting human resources and industrial relations.

This includes:

  • Draft legislation and regulatory proposals
  • Sector-specific skills development frameworks
  • Changes to employment policy, occupational health and safety standards, and labour laws
  • Government-led initiatives affecting transformation, youth employment, and enterprise development
  • Forum members serve as information conduits within their respective organizations and networks. Members are expected to:
    • Distribute and socialise consultation documents internally
    • Circulate industry-relevant updates between peers and aligned businesses
    • Contribute insights, feedback, and formal positions on behalf of their organisations

By becoming a member of the HR Forum, you will:

  • Stay ahead of policy developments and compliance expectations
  • Influence legislative outcomes that affect your workforce
  • Align your HR practices with national transformation and skills agendas
  • Collaborate with fellow professionals to shape a more competitive, compliant, and people-centred coatings industry
